“Eat more steamed rice!”

There are many stories of families passing down the rice steamer to their children. We are not aware of any other kitchen utensil being so revered by so many, at least in our corner of the globe.

As of 2023, The steamer has been out of production for over 5 years, and this is the main reason we at Royall Hardware have worked so hard to bring the enduring legacy of “The Charleston Rice Steamer” back to life!

Families and friends gathering around the table and sharing good food and good stories is what our broken world needs. Many Charlestonians old and new, rich and poor, have enjoyed the benefits of this unique cooking utensil for over 80 years. “Eat more steamed rice!”

My dad, John Edward, grew up in the Depression and always called it “the very thing!”, as he always found the rice steamer to be very efficient. My mother Claudia, a creative and beloved kindergarten teacher, cooked in it most days. Rice was a staple on most tables in the Lowcountry when I was growing up, and we hope to ensure that remains the same for generations to come.

Enjoy!
